National Signing Day 2011 - CSU HQ design
Haven’t updated in a while so I just thought I’d share how I put together the Colorado State Rams NSD 2011 HQ on Gold and Green News / Rivals.com. I just copied and pasted a message board post from an admin forum I made…
Here’s what I went ahead and did. First off, I built a custom 405 image with a bg photo of the CSU stadium I just happened to take on a hike last summer:

Inside I threw together a header in Dreamweaver with links to all of our anticipated content. I made a 3x3 table with no defined width and no border so it looks transparent and put in a bg image. It’s cut off, but it works as a starting point.

Throughout the day I will update the plain text and replace it with links to specific content. Keep in mind each site has its own CSS that will define the color of your links, so if you do something like I did, make sure it doesn’t blend too much.
Below the banner I have our CoverItLive chat, as I’ll open it up an hour before the press conference and answer questions as well as during the presser. Below the CIL is the Facebook comments widget.
After I posted it to the SS, I went into the slotting tool and set it four 24 hours so I can still add content (which I will also link in the banner), but it won’t bump my HQ from the home page.
Also, I set the HQ page to free so non-subs viewers (we’re a relatively small site, but have a great relationship with the independent CSU board that has most the traffic) can see what all is going on and what we’re about. Also, there is really no point of making a CIL even premium because it’s relatively easy to go around the Rivals page and access it directly from CIL.
